We’re kicking off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September with a $50,000 donation to the Childhood Cancer Association.

Each year, more than 1,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in Australia. It’s a devastating statistic, and for the families behind that number, their lives can change forever.

As one of Australia's key childhood cancer support organisations, the Adelaide-based Childhood Cancer Association provides practical, hands-on support to children with cancer and their families from professional counselling, accommodation for country families and educational support to ongoing care through bereavement or survivorship services.

Each child also receives a plush toy of Elliot the dog, the association’s mascot. He’s a friend that children with cancer can have by their side throughout their journey and they and their siblings can write letters to Elliot, who responds and provides words of support.

We’ve proudly supported CCA since 2019 and continue that with today’s $50,000 donation from The Lott for SA Lotteries.

“It takes more than just the best medical care to cope with a cancer diagnosis,” The Lott Partnerships Manager Ally Ramsamy said.

“Critical support services are also needed, and that’s where the Childhood Cancer Association steps in.”

CCA Chief Executive Cath O’Loughlin (pictured with Elliot) said funds would make a big difference to families.

“When a child has cancer, it affects the whole family – the parents, the siblings, the grandparents and extended family members, each requiring tailored support to help them cope,” she said.

“Given we don’t receive government funding, our 40-year milestone would not have been possible without the generosity of businesses like The Lott, who help us to provide vital services and support to families in need.”
