Our $1.5m to support sick children and paediatric brain cancer research

Survival rates for childhood brain cancer have barely changed in the past 30 years, with a child dying from the disease every nine days in Australia.

Today, we’re proud to contribute $1.5 million to the fight, with $1 million from state lottery taxes to the Children’s Hospital Foundation supporting sick kids and their families and $500,000 from unclaimed prizemoney to the foundation’s Children’s Brain Cancer Centre which brings together world-leading research teams.

“Brain cancer kills more children than any other disease in Australia, yet it’s often an underfunded area of research,” Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Lyndsey Rice said. 

Our Chief Customer and Marketing Officer Andrew Shepherd said we had a long legacy of supporting sick children and young people thanks to our customers and retailers.

“Over the years, The Lott by Golden Casket has committed almost $20 million to the Children’s Hospital Foundation to help fund cutting-edge equipment, world-first research and on-the-ground support,” he said.

“We continue to be inspired by the dedicated, world-class health professionals at the Queensland Children’s Hospital and Children’s Brain Cancer Centre, who support seriously ill children and young people every day. We hope our contribution continues to make a difference.”

See how the funding will help children such as seven-year-old Fletcher Campbell who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma – the most common high-grade brain tumour – in May this year.
