Our Story

Our Story Hero Image

The Lottery Corporation was created following the demerger from Tabcorp in 2022.

We're excited by what's to come, but it couldn't have happened without the story that brought us here.

It began with a sweep.

Our lotteries business dates back to 1881 when George Adams organised the first Tattersalls public sweep on the Sydney Cup. By 1896, Tattersalls Sweeps began selling tickets across Australia - even to our neighbours in New Zealand by post.

As momentum grew, Tattersalls acquired the Victorian public lottery licence in 1954. Over the next decade, public lotteries were state government-owned in other jurisdictions. From 2007, there was a period of privatisation of public lotteries when Tatts Group acquired Golden Casket, followed by NSW Lotteries in 2010 and SA Lotteries in 2012.

Tatts Group then merged with Tabcorp in 2017.

In 1991 Keno started being played in NSW registered clubs and was then introduced into other Australian states and territories.

Today is exciting.

Fast forward to 2022, Tabcorp's Lotteries & Keno business demerged to form The Lottery Corporation - the leader in the Australian lotteries and Keno market, and one of the highest performing lottery businesses globally.

Our Strategy, Vision, Purpose and Principles

Starting The Lottery Corporation from scratch has given us the unique opportunity to set our strategy and create our own culture.

Our Strategy

The Lottery Corporation's group strategy is made up of our vision, purpose and principles.

Our strategy, vision, purpose and principles are fully supported by our Board and Executive Leadership Team, and it will guide us and keep us on track to deliver great things.

When developing it, we considered our people, capabilities, the expectations of our shareholders and other stakeholders, our position in the global lotteries market and ultimately what we want our company to become.
