Our support to help keep more kids safe from harm

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Day for Daniel, Australia's largest child safety education and awareness day.

Day for Daniel is held annually on the last Friday of October and honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe, the 13-year-old boy whose life was taken when he was abducted from a Sunshine Coast bus stop. 

Today kicked off with the Walk for Daniel, where supporters of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation – including about 30 of our team members – came together to walk the 4km route that Daniel was unable to complete himself.  

Afterwards, we proudly announced a $450,000 contribution from The Lott by Golden Casket unclaimed prize money to the foundation founded by Daniel’s parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe, taking our support over the past six years to $1.9 million.

Our Partnerships Manager Liz McPherson hoped the funding would the foundation to continue setting new milestones. 

 “The incredible reach and impact of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is growing nationwide, and we’re proud to support their vital work,” she said.  

 “Today, walking alongside thousands of children, parents and teachers highlights Bruce and Denise’s mission to keep Aussie kids safe. As more participation records are broken each year, they’re getting closer to achieving that goal.  

"Last year’s Day for Daniel resulted in more than 470 schools receiving disclosures of harm. While difficult to hear, it shows just how important the foundation’s work is and the real difference that this funding makes in supporting their mission.”
